Blair Overstreet releases apology statement

Blair Overstreet has broken her silence and released an apology for controversial comments she made during a Periscope livestream May 24, which were viewed by many as transphobic. The 27-year-old actress' social media accounts have not been updated for the past week after the inflamatory remarks prompted an unprecedented backlash on Twitter.

"I am embarrassed and deeply sorry for the hurt I may have caused with my thoughtlessly spoken words," Overstreet wrote in the statement posted to her Twitter account. "Thank you for allowing me this time to decompress and process the effect that my carelessness has had, particularly on the community I value so much. I appreciate everyone who has reached out to me over the past week offering words of forgiveness and education. There is always more to be learned, and the best thing we can do for each other is continue to teach one another. As we enter pride month, I have never been prouder to stand beside my brothers and sisters in the LGBTQA community. I love you, I support you, and I will do better."

I want to thank you for your hard work this week. I know you had your doubts about Rebecca, but like I told you, she's a pro. It's going to be a slow turn of the tide, but between this and you finally letting us release an apology, we've managed to garner you some sympathy, or at least diminished some of the anger. Isn't it nice when things are calm?

We don't want to dwell on the incident for too long or people will begin to overthink it, so it's time to let this one pass quietly and put it behind us. Keep it LIGHT on social media. Now is not time to run the mouth. Post more pictures of the cat, people love those.

Blair Overstreet Assaulted in Los Angeles Nightclub

Actress Blair Overstreet was assaulted during a Pride celebration at Precinct DTLA Saturday night after being approached by a woman who allegedly threw her drink on the actress and then attempted to "wrestle her to the ground", according to onlookers. It is unclear what prompted the attack, though it has been speculated it may have been in relation to controversial comments made by Overstreet last month. (The actress, who came out in 2012, has since publically apologized for these comments.) Security quickly intervened and the as of yet unidentified attacker was escorted from the premises.

Overstreet reportedly sustained no major injuries from the attack, and tweeted early Sunday morning alluding to the incident: "Rough night but you can't control other people's actions, only react to them. This is what I get when I say I like shit wild?"

Representatives for Overstreet have not yet responded to inquiries on whether or not the actress plans to press charges.
